If you’re an actor without a demo reel, then you pretty much don’t exist. Thousands of actors with the exact same profile and characteristics as you, are better prepared and do have demo reels when they submit themselves casting directors, agents, and managers.

As an actor, the only thing you really have control over is your education, tools, and hard work. You need all three. Having two out of the three won’t cut it. It’s a tough business and only the strong and well prepared will survive.

You need to take advantage of any and all tools available, and the top of that list are head shots and demo reels. You need both if you expect to compete with the best.

Think about it this way, for every audition, even just a one liner in a movie, will have hundreds, if not thousands of actors submitting themselves for a chance to audition that one line. If one thousand actors and actresses submitted themselves for the audition, and only 100 of those submissions were from actors/actresses who also submitted their demo reels for the casting agent to see them on film, there’s a high probability that they choose a higher percentage of the actors with demo reels, than the ones who didn’t have a demo reel.

Having trouble deciding on how many scenes to do? Try one first and if you have another scene you’d like to do after you filmed the first one, you have 7 day to just pay the difference between package #1 and package #2.
